Summer 2019 Bucket List
Although the official start of summer is still a few weeks away, the weather is hot enough to consider it here in full force!
And you know what? I LOVE IT! I love all the seasons, but I am a child of summer through and through. It’s the season for outside naps in the shade (because the air is basically a heated blanket - my fave), watermelon, sun-kissed skin, beach and lake trips, bare feet, cookouts, and adventures. Here are some things I’m looking forward to and hoping for this summer.
Float down a river with friends
There is nothing that seems more summer-perfect to me than doing a river-float with friends! Of all the bodies of water, I love rivers the best, and floating down on tubes with a can of something cold sounds like perfection!
Have a housewarming party
We’ve lived in our little cottage since December, and still haven’t had a proper housewarming! There’s still a lot we’d like to do around here (adding a screened-in porch, making a fire pit, hanging market lights) but if we wait for it all to be done we may never make it to party time! Whatever stage we’re in, we’d like to have friends over, share some tasty beverages, and celebrate this season of life!
Take a few trips
On the docket is Beaufort (our go-to beach location) hopefully some time in June, and then definitely for the 4th of July holiday. In August we have a family trip to Lake Gaston planned (that’s where John and I got married!), and maybe I’ll be able to eek in one more trip in there before summer is over. Do you have any summer trips planned?
Release my new single!
For someone who hasn’t released new music in, well, 8 years (!!!), I feel a little geeky saying it, but it’s true! I’ve spent the last few months popping into my dear friend’s (/sister-in-law’s!) home studio (go check out her music - it is PERFECT for summer!!!) to record this little diddy that’s been living on the backburner for a little while, but it still rings true and I love it! I can’t wait for you to hear! Be sure to check in with my instagram for the latest!
Release this lovely new website to the world!
What was a dream at the start of 2018 starting taking shape last fall with the help of my friend Sarah Faucette of Native State Design Company (Sarah was also the brilliant mind behind the LULA website/brand design!) I studied creative writing in college, and I’m so happy to have a home for thoughts and poems alike that feels so true to myself! I hope you like it, too, and feel at home between the pages here. This is your space too, so please contact me if you have something you’d like to contribute to the Kindreds series!
Turn 32!
Y’all, I have always been a BIG birthday believer!! June 8th has long been my most favorite day of the year, sacred and filled with all things wonderful! But this year I’m feeling a little blue about it. I don’t know what the deal is, but I’m gonna just let it be, not force anything, and I know there will be joys in there waiting for me! What are some of your favorite birthday traditions?
Make a 4th of July cobbler
For the last few years, I’ve used holidays as an excuse to practice making tasty and pretty baked desserts! There’s just something so pretty and comforting about a cobbler, and I’ve always loved that dessert choice over cake or ice cream. Every year there is a big cookout in Beaufort with friends and family, so I’m searching for a fun twist on an Independence Day dessert!
Get back into a habit of exercise
While our eating habits have been pretty good this year (we’ve tried and loved Keto and have wanted to stick with it because of all of the benefits we experienced), I’ve only been to the gym once since moving! I still try to get outside and walk on the trails, or do a little yoga here and there, but I know my mind and body would be even happier if I added some more activity!
Enjoy meals with produce from our garden
This year is our first year growing some some food in our small garden, and I’d love to get creative with some of the goodies we have growing there! We have zuchinni, squash, tomatoes, cucumber, beans, herbs, spinach, and peppers! Do you have any creative recipes using summer produce?
Did you miss my Spring Bucket List? Some items still apply (& the inspirations are lovely) so be sure to take a little peep back there for more inspiration for your season!
