My Favorite Ways to Start Feeling Fall

I usually wait until mid-September to dive into a full-blown Autumn frenzy, but in these few weeks between the seasons, I like to ease into some simple ways to start feeling fall! It gets me so excited for this specific late summer, early fall season, and for all that is to come!

What are some of your favorite ways to ease into fall?

  1. start Transitioning your wardrobe

    • I like to start by adding rich, fall-y colors into my wardrobe, like burnt orange, sienna, chambray/denims, red, plum, black, tan, and olive. Even if it’s just a small accent like a neckerchief or a blouse, you can still be weather appropriate and add some fall in little by little.

    • I’ll also bring in some fluffier textures & layering pieces into the mix! The mornings and evenings are getting chillier, and the A/C is still pumpin’ strong in most buildings. I'll start to bring along a long knit cardigan (like this one) with me, or wearing cute socks & chelsea boots or booties with my shorts, skirts, or dresses!

  2. Ease into Fall Scents

    • Nothin’ too pumpkin-y ;) but I do enjoy going ahead and changing up my home scents from summer. Right now I’m burning an apple cider soy candle in the morning while I enjoy quiet time, or in the afternoon while I try to get some work done (similar to this Esselle Apple + Pear candle from Madewell!) It really sets the atmosphere for enjoying this specific season and gets me excited about making the most of the rest of the year! Other great scents to enjoy now would be tobacco, vanilla, or amber, like this Amber & Smoke candle from Paddywax.

    • If you’re into having clean/non-toxic scents in your home, you can still find awesome fall smells to enjoy! I’d recommend checking out what’s on Grove Collaborative (like the Mrs. Myers Apple Cider candle, one of my FAVES), an online store committed to stocking name-brand but non-toxic household and personal items that ship right to your home. I turn off the auto-ship and just enjoy purchasing just when I need to.

  3. Fallify your music

    • While summer is a time for dance-y, more beat driven music, I like to start transitioning to more low-key indie/acoustic sounds as the light gets more golden this time of year. Everyone has their own flavor! These are some of my favorite songs for fall. What type of music do you enjoy the get you in the fall mood? Comment with your playlist link - I WILL listen to it! I’m a playlist junkie!

  4. Explore the Farmer’s Market

    • This time of year is the BEST for farmer’s market shopping! The end of summer and into fall hold no shortage of the land’s most colorful bounty for you to peruse, and dream of what goodies you’re gonna cook up in the kitchen. Make a day date of it, take the fam and your market basket, and enjoy some brunch or lunch while you’re at it! If you’re in the Raleigh area, here are some of my recommendations for great places to check out in that area.

  5. Take it Outside

    • Now that the weather is getting milder, it’s time to start transitioning to the outside, especially in the morning and evening. We’ve been enjoying our front porch during morning coffee or a chat in the afternoon before dinner, and we’re also working on building a screened-in porch! You can pack a picnic to enjoy in your yard, or reading on a hammock.

  6. Start cozying your home

    • You can bring a deeper color & texture into your home with something as simple as a different throw blanket or set of pillows. I love this mossy green tartan throw from Amazon, or this macrame pillow!

    • I also love to go thrifting during this season to see what new simple decor items I can score on the cheap! People tend to clean out their homes when the seasons change, which makes for great hunting. Think baskets, vases, and interesting art.

    • I also encourage you to use what you have! Switch up some of the smaller decor items in your kitchen or living room, using different bowls to hold fruit & veggies, rearranging your books, moving around plants, and featuring different candles.

What are some of your favorite ways to start enjoying this season?

I hope you take a moment to slow down a second, breathe in the slight chill in the air, and enjoy this time! I’ll see ya out there!
