A January Thrift Haul
Hi friends!
Thrifting is a regular part of my life! It’s something I enjoy, it’s a way I can stick to my budget while carefully curating the functionality and beauty of my home, and it is more sustainable than the fast-fashion and lower quality of big box stores.
My mom taught me how to thrift. It was just a part of our regular shopping rounds while I was growing up. Because I am from this area, I have regular spots that I browse through that have been favorites since I was little.
Even if you only have 15 minutes, you can find a basket full of treasures! If you’d like some tips on how to thrift, check out this post filled with my best tips and tricks!
I always enjoy when people share their thrift hauls, so I thought I’d share some of my finds from my last thrift trip, and show you how I styled a few things!
The finds:
White flowy peasant top 1
White flowy peasant top 2
Bold silk watercolor print blouse
Baby peter pan collar button-up top
Baby pink knit sweater
Large glass container
Small glass container with lid
Small mason jars (2)
Wooden melon baller
Primitive wood hand broom
Huckleberry Finn (60’s edition)
Walt Whitman selected poems
Random pick! A Weekend to Change Your Life
This haul cost me about $25 total. Win!
This particular haul, I landed a few beautiful tops that I couldn’t wait to (wash, dry, and then) try on! I couldn’t believe the quality of this silky blouse with the colorful print! And I landed a couple of white peasant tops, which is a trend I’m gonna get really into once the weather gets warmer.
Finney looks adorable (like, so very adorable) in her pink cardigan! We haven’t tried the top just yet, but I’m excited to make a little outfit for her using that as well. These items were BOGO, so I spent $2 total for them!
I also found quite a few helpful home items on this run. I really loved the look of this large turquoise glass canister, and decided to try it to hold my Borax in our laundry pantry. I don’t have a ton of space, so the size is just right, and I think it looks great with the silver scooper!
I’m always on the lookout for good mason jars to hold baby food, nuts, granola, grains, and dried fruit. Not only does it look nice on the shelf or in the fridge, but it really helps keep food fresher for longer.
As you can see, I keep an eye out for wood and glass items that look as though they’ve been made well and stood the test of time. In any size home, it’s great for the items you use to also go along with an overall decor. I’ve hung the hand broom on our cleaning pegboard, used the glass jar with lid to hold my makeup brushes, and am looking forward to using the melon baller this summer.
Out of the books, I love that I’ve added a couple of classics to our bookshelf with a beautiful 60’s edition of Huckleberry Finn and a collection of Walt Whitman poems. I am also loving the Joan Anderson book, A Weekend to Change Your Life, as I mentioned in this post.
A helpful tip while thrifting books is to check the publish date and remove the dust cover to see the condition (and look) of the hardcover. I prefer to display my books without the dust covers - it’s so much prettier!
That’s it, folks! If you’re not into thrifting but are interested to know my best tips, check out my post How to Thrift Like A Pro, and let me know some of your favorite items to find when you’re on a thrift hunt!
A thoughtful, beautiful, useful home doesn’t have to break the bank or look like anyone else’s home. Dare to go treasure hunting and see what you find that speaks to you! Keep in mind that items can be cleaned, reupholstered, repainted, and repurposed. Secondhand shopping is not only a sustainable way to shop, but it’s also a fun activity for you and the family, and it’s a way more thoughtful way to spend your money. You’ll make good memories and find the most unique items while you’re at it!
